About Rhino

Reinhard “Rhino” Grohmann, originally from Munich, first arrived in South Africa in 1988 on a three-year assignment with a motor company. But Africa had other plans. Captivated by the continent’s raw beauty and endless horizons, Rhino stayed on—and a life-changing moment in Botswana in 1993 set him on a new path: becoming a safari guide.

He led his first safari in 1999 and spent over 13 years guiding overland tours across South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique, often with up to 18 guests. In 2020, he achieved the highest FGASA Trails Guide qualification, reflecting both his deep bush knowledge and passion for walking safaris.

In 2014, Rhino founded Rhino Safaris, focusing on tailor-made journeys through Southern Africa. Today, he designs and guides intimate safaris for individuals and small groups of up to six guests—each one built with care, expertise, and a deep respect for Africa’s wilderness.
